Childhood memories are vivid, almost indescribable in their detail, and impossible to forget. A Christmas memory I have is that of a black velvet dress  a family friend gave to me for my seventh Christmas.

One of the smartest things I do to feed my cultural spirit? Hang out here. And, clicking over to the sites that belong to readers, and other Latino writers. Heaven.

Without this daily connection, I could go mucho tiempo in my regular life in Nashville without a big Latin hit.

That is probably so odd to so many of you — especially those of you who live in places like Miami, L.A., New York. You don’t have to go out of your way to grab cultura. It is just there for you. Lucky you.

But, my lack is the Tiki Tiki’s gain. It is why I enjoy putting this space together, and finding a variety of voices to talk tiki tiki with us.

To further spread the energy and feeling of being Latina in the USA, and celebrating las cosas buenas about our culture and ourselves, the Tiki Tiki is working with Kmart and the community it created, Latina Smart.

So, check out the video in this essay to see my answers to five questions about being Latina — a Latina today. And then come on over to the Latina Smart Facebook page and share, por fa. (I have closed the comments in this post).

You also can see videos by the other writers — Angelica, Bren, Mercedes and Monique — on the Latina Smart Facebook community page.

Additionally, I tagged Rachel Matos from the Art Muse, who will do her own video soon. Please visit her beautiful blog and fall in love with her creativity, talent and eye for art and detail.

Now, your turn!

Come on over.

p.s. I filmed the video under a tree while on vacation in glorious Colorado. That’s not Tennessee!
