Dicho: Are You a Medio or a Real?

I am just not sure about this dicho. Not sure at all. No me gusta the punto y ya that once a less-than, always a less-than. We all know too many people who have turned a lost ship around, si?

But, here it is anyway, a common Spanish dicho, as told by my wonderful Tia, with an assist from my dad.

What do you think?

El Que Nace Para Medio, Nunca Llega a Real.

So, do you have what it takes?

Share, por favor!

A little harsh maybe, but not necessarily ALL wrong. No le puedes pedir peras al olmo…sometimes just the reality of life :-)

Your Tía is adorable!!! LOVED HER!
I´ve never heard this specific dicho, but we have a similiar one in “Mexican” – “el que nace pa maceta, no pasa del corredor”
O sease, if you do not have aspirations you will stay in the same place.
Which makes sense, no?
I guess it´s all about adding value to our lives so we can move from being a nickel into a full hundred dollar bill!

Looove your family. ¡Que lindos!
Nice day!!!

Thank you Sue and thank you Blanca. I did my best to say the dicho, but I forgot the end. Thanks to Efren who help me out.

Me gusta este tambien:”El que nace para tarruo, del cielo le caen los cuernos”..

If you are Cuban, you know what “tarruo” means. LOL.

Interesting, being of Ecuadorian decent I’m not familiar with the words “medio” and “real” meaning nickel and dime. However when I read el dicho I thought it meant if you were born “middle class” (medio) you’ll never be “royalty” (real)

I love that about the Spanish language there are so many different meanings to words and phrases.

Guess the point of el picho is sort of the same but still kind of harsh. I guess its used to fuel the fire in use when we’re young.
I’m going to ask my parents about this dicho and see if they ever heard it growing up.

Great pos!

Indeed, the dichos fuel the fire when we’re young. I remember being told the same ones over and over to put me in line, or tell me a truism. They still tell me about el diablo sabe mas por diablo de que por ser viejo…
Let me know if your parents know the dicho.

Carrie,

My take is more on the lucky side … some people just tend to be unlucky, no matter what … this dicho reminds me of another Cuban dicho …

“El que nace pa’tamal, del cielo le caen las hojas”

Have a great week-end :) Melek
