As a child, Jose Hernandez picked cucumbers and beets alongside his parents, who only got as far as the third grade and raised their family working as migrant laborers. Tomorrow, the Mexican-American astronaut is scheduled to shuttle into space on a 13-day mission. He hopes to inspire Latino youngers to reach for the moon, or wherever their dreams may be.

“If they think that because they are in a financial situation where college is not in the works, that is not true,” he told ABC News. “Where there is a will there is a way. And I will trade my story with theirs and hopefully they will say, ‘well Jose did it, and I can do it.’”

Hernandez will be tweeting as @Astro_Jose from space  – in Spanish and English — and you can follow him on Twitter. Que cool is that? Below is a 60 Minutes interview from earlier this year.
