Ah, happy Friday to you, gente. Here in the Boonies, we are enjoying a school-free day with three girls under the age of 7. Wish me luck.
Check out the viral video of a young girl’s cover of Lady Gaga’s Born this Way. It made me happy. Hope it does you too.
I am going to say it, the best writing on the Web this week, was right here. Yes, right here.
We had four powerful essays on Love by four amazing contributing writers. To make sure you didn’t miss them, here are the links:
I Know Love Can Mend, by Roxana A. Soto.
I Know Love is Sleepless by Lisa Quinones-Fontanez.
I Know Love Remains by Tere.
I Know Love is a Fresh Start by Maria de los Angeles.
I Know Love is a Best Friend, an love letter I wrote to my best friends.
Speaking of love, are you planning a wedding? Especially one with a little Latin flavor? Head over the New Latina and read this week’s stories about some fabulous, inspired weddings…including mine, an event full of maracas and guajiro hats.
I don’t know about you, but we have some difficulties getting la nena to do her chores. I am going to check out this app called ChoreBank. I am willing to try anything, short of a big chancletaso. And, for more sanity-saving, if a little silly, apps for helping with kids, check out this newspaper story and be sure to read about Sit or Squat!
I was doing a little mindless scrolling this week and saw a post on Sofia Vergara. The comments included many a shocked “She’s a natural blonde?” Que shock. Yes, she is. She dyes her hair to look more Latina. But, you knew that already.
‘I’m a natural blonde, but when I started acting, I would go to auditions, and they didn’t know where to put me because I was voluptuous and had the accent – but I had blonde hair, admitted the Colombian born star.
‘The moment I dyed my hair dark, it was, ‘Oh, she’s the hot Latin girl.’ I loved it … Being brunette toned me down a bit.’ — as quoted in the Daily Mail.
Did you see this “unearthed” video making the rounds? Sofia in 1998, doing a video for Bally’s.
OK, not that you got some candy, here’s some hearty stuff.
- I love Erin Margolin’s writing.
- Liz recommended Erin to me. Liz is a poet, una mujer con corazon. Her site is Mujer Zen.
- Are you a frustrated writer, an aspiring writer? Read agent Betsy Lerner. She’s hilarious and smart and I like how she cusses.
- And here’s a food one for you: High Heels & Frijoles. How could a blog with a name like that, not be good?
Now, you be good.
